Residential Children's Home

Children's Home

At Whitehall House, we do not see residential care as a last resort, but as a positive and proactive intervention designed to support children and young people through challenging times. Our home provides a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where every child is treated as an individual with unique needs, strengths, and potential.

We are committed to promoting emotional wellbeing, personal development, and independence. Young people are supported to make meaningful choices—whether it’s decorating their bedrooms, contributing to house rules, planning activities, or helping to prepare meals. These everyday decisions build confidence, ownership, and a sense of belonging.

Whitehall House is purposefully located within the community in Slade Green, enabling young people to stay connected to local schools, healthcare services, recreational spaces, and social networks. We believe maintaining these vital community links fosters stability and supports positive outcomes, rather than uprooting young people to unfamiliar settings far from home.

Our Safe Steps

We provides care for children and young people who may be considered vulnerable to child sexual exploitation (CSE) and other significant community-based risks.

The staff team are trained in safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and work in partnership with professionals to identify risks early, build trusting relationships, and implement tailored safety and support plans.

Children are supported to understand healthy relationships, develop protective behaviours, and maintain safe connections in the community.

Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)

Child sexual exploitation (CSE) and the challenge of protecting vulnerable young people remain national concerns. Too often, children are placed far from home or in secure settings, disrupting their education, family ties, and community support. At Whitehall House, we take a different approach—providing care within the local community to support continuity, familiarity, and healing.

Our Practice

Our practice is grounded in social pedagogy, specifically the ‘Head, Heart, Hands’ approach. We focus on building trust through consistent, authentic relationships that allow children to feel safe and understood. From this foundation, we support them in recognising the signs of unhealthy relationships and teach them skills to keep themselves safe.

Therapeutic Support

Each young person has access to therapeutic support tailored to their needs, and we work collaboratively with local specialist services to address risks such as CSE, trauma, and emotional or behavioural difficulties. Because Whitehall House is embedded within the community, young people can maintain and rebuild relationships with family, friends, and school. They leave with improved emotional resilience, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of their worth and rights in relationships.
